Rebel forces resume hostilities and executions of wealthy Manchus occur.
May E. Choat sues Lafayette Choat for divorce in Jackson county court at Independence alleging extreme cruelty. He was jailed for felonious assault after driving his wife with a harrow. The hearing began as Choat contests the suit.

Little Falls Minnesota February 1 H J Schwartz banker of Royalton was found guilty by a jury of accepting deposits after the failure of the Bank of Royalton in a case tied to the bank collapse.
In Lisbon the Tagus harbor hosts over a thousand arrestees moved aboard warships to deter rescue attempts. Bombs damage a streetcar as strikers flood the streets. Martial law is enforced under General Carvalhaes with riots expanding to suburbs and a brutal governor's murder intensifying tensions.
