An explosion at the Colorado Fuel and Iron mine in Primero near Trinidad traps about 150 workers, with three men found dead at the entrance. Most miners are Mexican and Italian. communication lines are down and reporters must travel long by road for details.
Madrid reports a birth in the royal family due the latter part of May. Queen Victoria already has three children Prince Alphonso Prince Jaime and Princess Beatrice born June 22 1909.

Cincinnati February 1. At the resumed trial of Mrs. Jeanette Ford charged with attempting to blackmail C L Warriner the confessed embezzler Warriner was the star witness He testified he had been held up for seven years and had given Ford twelve thousand dollars annually plus funds for her son schooling and a medical operation, as Ford sought further funds.
Nicholas Niedendock, 29, fell into a coal chute at the Yorkville Independent Iron Company in New York. He was trapped for sixteen hours before rescuers hoisted his body from the bunker amid a pile of coal.
Police and firemen rushed to the scene after miners were trapped in a coal chute. Diggers uncovered an upraised arm and rescuers hoisted the man out with ropes. He had been dead for hours.
