After twelve hours the jury in the Thaw case remained split with rumors of eight to four in favor of acquittal on insanity. Justice Dowling adjourned court for the day as Jerome and Littleton weighed possible outcomes. Thaw retired to his cell while spectators and family stayed near for the verdict.
