Former Greek premier Venizelos departed Paris for Athens citing postponed departure. Friends say internal Greek animosities persist, with a strong minority or majority against him, making a political move uncertain while he evades reporters.
The prince Regent refused to accept the cabinet resignations presented earlier in the week. Premier Yamamoto submitted the resignations again this afternoon, but the cabinet members appear reluctant to remain in office.
The Iowa State Bankers association scheduled its annual convention for Mason City on June 16 17 and 18 to avoid conflicts with local events and commencements Secretary Frank Warner announced. Mason City has offered to host and begin plans for the entertainment of the bankers.
Four persons were killed and a fifth fatally injured when their automobile collided with a Southern railway train at a grade crossing near Aiken South Carolina. The crash was reported from Columbia South Carolina today.
E W Schmal vreid an American missionary of the Reformed Church in the United States was released December 20 after being kidnapped by bandits last November. No further details were provided.
Hyrum Dempsey father of boxing champion Jack Dempsey was fined $50 in state court for liquor possession. He pleaded guilty after being taken into custody a week earlier in a Salt Lake City cafe.
Des Moines December 29 The Brotherhood of American Yeomen board began its annual session with plans to select a site for a proposed 15 million dollar City of Childhood in the Midwest. Possible sites include Des Moines St Louis and Cedar Rapids Iowa City with rumors swirling as to the favored option and hospital presence at Iowa City noted. Construction is slated to begin in spring once a site is chosen and plans proceed.
The Marion county grand jury, which investigated Governor Warren T. McCray’s financial affairs, returned eight indictments including forgery, embezzlement, and larceny. Today it added seven more indictments detailing specific incidents of these crimes, with no new accusations against the governor.
Four armed bandits with guns entered the Summit State Bank in Sum mit Illinois and fired as they took about 15 000 to 18 000 dollars in cash. Police report that nearly all currency in the bank was stolen and one person was wounded.
