Gunshot injuries sent three youths to hospitals this week
Washington County youths sustained accidental gunshot wounds and a separate car crash left two men injured. Ricky Farrier of Ainsworth was treated for a thigh wound. Steve and Tom Conrad were hurt in a hunting mishap when a slipped shot from a .410 struck Steve and Tom. Jerold Wasson and Kenneth McDonald survived a 100 foot air crash near Wellman. Wasson faces a charge for failing to control his vehicle. In Centerville, Appanoose County Auditor Veil Farnsworth resigned after an 18 year tenure amid a state audit of county funds. Deputy Etta Jean Laurson was named to fill the post until the next election.

Former Canadian prime minister Lester B. Pearson died at 75 after a liver cancer diagnosis. He had been in Florida on vacation and lapsed into a coma at home Christmas Eve with his widow Maryon and children Geoffrey and Pat at his bedside.
