Christmas Spirit and War Times Reflections Across Iowa
A snippet from Ottumwa era columns reflects on war news, telephoning etiquette, and postwar planning. It notes morale shifts in Japan during bombardments, labor market goals of sixty million postwar jobs, and social humor, while urging patience with telephone lines and caution in predictions about Europe’s end. The piece blends quotes, local notes, and light humor from Cedar Rapids to La Crosse.
