New Hampton officials indicate conviction unlikely for Mat Weiman aged 47 as investigators say the truck may not have caused the death of John Quirk who was struck near his farm driveway while helping a school teacher remove chains from her car. Quirk was dragged about six and a half miles under the truck before the accident. Police who questioned Weiman at his home reported he was cooperative and made no replies suggesting criminal intent.

Funeral services for Mrs W W Lanfier will be held at 2 PM Thursday at L A Jones funeral home. The interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery beside her mother and sister. Mrs Lanfier died Sunday night in Monticeto Mississippi after eight days of illness. She and her husband W N Lanfier lived mainly in Muscatine with brief stays in Davenport and Rock Island. She was born Ida Myrtle Gresham on August 11 1899 and married Lanfier July 17 1918. She was a Methodist and is survived by three sisters and one brother: Mrs Z W Knottonerus Mrs Oscar Collett of Washington Mrs Ada Krepp of Stockton Town and Mrs Gresham of West Chester.
