The Ames and Washington County offices will close Monday and Tuesday December 23 and 24 in lieu of Washington's Birthday and Veterans Day. The office will close for Christmas Day and New Year's Day but remain open the rest of the year end holiday period.
President Ford arrived in Vail for Christmas with his family wearing an orange ski jacket. He tackled the simba trail, one of the hardest runs, flanked by about 150 spectators including 50 reporters. Secret Service and instructor Dennis C. Hoeger arranged the outing, letting Ford go to the front of the lift line and greet well wishers.
New York tax officials said former President Richard M. Nixon owed 11344 in back taxes on a 1968 sale gain from his Manhattan apartment and paid in full last week after an eight month investigation. No fraud was found.

Des Moines CB operators led by Mike Shaffer raise about 500 dollars and 30 boxes of donations for Jack Blacksmith wife England and five children after a house fire in Sheldahl. Donations included a Christmas tree and puppies raffle proceeds, with more help pledged from a three state area and a Missouri caller.
Gov. Robert D. Ray announces a five member Iowa Economic Advisory Council to aid state budgeting and policy. W. Ronald Sagraves will staff the group. first major task is assisting the budget to be presented next month. Possible future tax issues and whether the council becomes statutory are discussed.
A Venezuela bound jet from Puerto Ordaz to Caracas crashed on approach to Maturin Airport after mechanical trouble. Captain Diogenes Torella piloted the jet which exploded midair and plunged into a hill, killing all aboard including Robins Pinerua, nephew of Interior Minister Luis Penerua Ordaz. A large rescue effort found widespread wreckage and burned bodies.
The Congressional Joint Economic Committee asked for a sizeable tax cut to boost buying power and productivity. It projects 1975 unemployment near 7.5 percent, stagnation before a turn, and inflation easing toward seven percent if harvests are good.
The Supreme Court in a 6-3 decision sustains the presidents broad right to grant pardons and set conditions. The ruling centers on a former Army sergeant whose death sentence was commuted to life with a no parole condition. Justice Burger, writing for the majority, says pardoning power flows from the Constitution and cannot be altered.

The Community Chest fundraising stands 2077 short of its 197 goal, with Washingtons Red Feather drive poised to miss the top. Campaign head Al Swarthout notes all canvassing is done though some donations may arrive by mail at box 86 Washington. Total raised reaches 37823, 95 percent of the 39900 goal, with divisions listed and many volunteers praised.
