Flu outbreak in Iowa tied to 1957 influenza A-2 virus

Iowa public health officials say the current flu outbreak mirrors the 1957 event, caused by influenza A-2. They note mostly young people are affected, adults likely immune from prior exposure. Winners named in Washington decorating contest

Gifted seven years ago by Mrs. R I Gale the aunt in Santa Barbara the figures were clothed in US made garments. Joseph stands twelve inches tall holding a candle while a pipe playing shepherd and life like sheep add realism. The family values the set as a teaching tool about giving, despite seven children complicating seasonal use.

Christmas travel toll rises as nation braces for holiday rush

Santa Locates Elsie Home With Trailer Treasures

In Auburn Pennsylvania Santa Claus visited the Lehman family, found in a rural one room trailer. Elsie Lehman, 12, wrote of a giftless Christmas amid hardship. the gift haul included 100 coats toys bicycles and food valued at over 3000 dollars. Santa arrived with help from a tractor trailer donated by Rocky Rothrock and local donors after a radio host broadcast the plea.

Blind girls send Braille Christmas card to soldiers

Ten Indianapolis Girl Scouts signed a Braille Christmas card for GIs in Vietnam. The message praised the troops, pledged to work toward peace, and was signed by Rosalie Hancock and nine others with help from adviser Mrs. Wayne M. Harvey at the Indiana School for the Blind.

Little girl pleads Santa to keep daddy home for Christmas

In Pittsburgh at Horne's Department Store a young girl climbed Santa's lap with a wish list including a little sister a game a doll a cross necklace a story book a stuffed elephant and a pink clock. She added her father plans to leave and asked Santa to make him stay.
