Divers completed a tunnel beneath the sunken S-4 off Provincetown as salvage plans move toward raising the craft next spring. Despite a pending storm and northeast wind, crews drilled through mud 28 feet beyond the bow and will place heavy chains to anchor a buoy and support a future lifting operation.
Col Charles Lindbergh and his mother Evangeline Lodge Lindbergh gathered in Mexico City for a quiet Christmas. The plan included a dinner at the American embassy with staff and several receptions in Mrs Lindbergh and her son's honor. The aviator arrived by Spirit of St Louis after a delay caused by crowds.
