Political Row Over Veto Lift Fails Narrowly

The nations capital report notes Republicans and southern Democrats blocked a bid by liberal senators to override President Nixon's veto of a 9.5 billion manpower bill. In a 48 35 tally eight votes short of two thirds Senator Miller opposed the veto while Senator Hughes joined the losing effort.

Training session for 4-H officers in Washington county

The Washington County 4-H officer training will be at the Christian Church in Washington on Wednesday December 30 at 9 am. Julia Gamon, Extension 4-H Assistant, says the session helps clubs run meetings and share ideas. Winter Arrives Across Nation With Severe Cold In Massena

United Press International reports winter hit Massena New York with 31 below zero just after the season began. The town had 40.7 inches of snow from three storms with none melted, while statewide and nationwide arctic conditions produced heavy snowfall from Montana to Arizona.

South Viet offers to free disabled prisoners of war

South Vietnam announced it would free up to 50 disabled North Vietnamese POWs as a humanitarian gesture ahead of Tet. The plan calls for releases in small boats on the Ben Hai River with International Red Cross witnesses, and would require POWs to choose to go to North Vietnam.
