Royal Canadian Air Force planes located a missing C45 in Ontario near Graham on a return trip to Minneapolis from Sioux Lookout. Three American airmen were aboard Capt Hal W. Burch pilot from Omaha Nebraska May Ellis Ira Veateh Drake North Dakota and Capt Dorsey Stover East Beckley West Virginia. They are all stationed at Wold Chamberlain Field in Minneapolis.
The Iowa Conservation Commission reported the current deer kill in mid December nears the 1954 total. About 4 500 hunt report cards had been returned with 2 300 reporting kills, excluding unlicensed farmers on their lands. 1954 saw 2 880 deer killed by licensed hunters and landowners.
Benjamin D Cherry 56 was found dead at his home 1641 East Amelia Ave Phoenix Arizona this morning. He was born August 19 1899 in Washington Iowa to William A and Ella Young Cherry. A World War I veteran and former locomotive engineer for the Southern Pacific Railroad he served in the Rainbow division and was wounded at Chateau Thierry. He lived in Phoenix for nearly 30 years and belonged to the American Legion and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Services and burial will be arranged by Sherman’s Funeral Home.
The Agriculture Department projects the 1956 spring pig crop at 46 million head, two percent below 1955, based on 8,116,000 sows bred to farrow. Last spring 8,309,000 sows produced 57,342,000 pigs, with 1944 and 1954 spring outputs of 54,215,000 and 52,852,000 respectively. The 1955 fall crop plus spring total 95,256,000 hogs for the year, and hog prices have fallen about 40 percent as a result. The national average price for good butcher hogs was about $11 per hundredweight, down from about $18 a year earlier.

C. W. Ingram long time Riverside resident suffered a stroke at his National City California home Sunday. He is paralyzed on his left side with no improvement by Monday and remains hospitalized at 1615 C Street National City.
Eastern Airlines asked families of 17 victims not to come to Jacksonville as recovery teams expected identifying more than three charred bodies from the Miami to New York Constellation crash. Investigators sought evidence from scattered wreckage to explain a low approach during a routine instrument landing near Jacksonville Municipal Airport.
Two men leaped from a drifting car seconds before Union Pacific City of Portland streamliner struck it at 8:50 am two miles north of Preston Iowa. Sheriff Lorin Felderman identified one man as Thomas Droullard, 50, of Dubuque, who later said he saw the train and sped away. The car skidded along the tracks as the men escaped unharmed.

Lincoln forester Daniel Parker admitted to strangling his 22 year old wife Nancy Morrison on December 14 after she refused his advances. He tied and gagged her and tore her clothing to fake a rape scene, then reported the body at noon. Parker, formerly from Henderson Iowa, was watched and later confessed after a lie detector test. Mrs Morrison expressed shock upon learning of the confession.
Rev Earl Longfellow pastor of the Baptist church and president of the Washington Ministerial Association was the speaker at the Washington Kiwanis Club gathering. He addressed How to Have a Perfect Christmas. Guests included Dan Holland Ed Bock Lavelle Burbridge and Dave Delaney.

A federal health report shows Washington County heart disease caused 66.4 percent of local deaths in 1953, far above national 52.3 percent and regional 54.4 percent figures. The loss includes 141 deaths in 1953 with total county mortality 212, amid billions lost in hours and dollars to heart disease.

Arthur DeKraai, 27, Marshalltown, Iowa, acquitted of transporting a stolen auto across state lines, was allowed Christmas travel home. Lawyers used a rarely invoked law to order transportation and sustenance for the prisoner, with U.S. Marshal providing the ride from the local terminal to the bus station.

A Davenport fire and explosion at the Wright home killed three children aged 5, 4, and 2 and injured their parents and four siblings. The scene was at 8:40 am with two other children escaping. cause under investigation by Fire Chief Schick and Fire Marshal Denekas.
L A Holland of Washington named county sales chairman of the savings bonds division by Gerard S Nollen. He succeeds Don Maxwell who served since July 1951. Holland, executive vice president of the Washington State Bank, has long civic and church involvement and has volunteered for savings bonds since 1941.
Local YMCA plans to replace towels stolen 29 years ago after a donor from South Carolina sent five dollars with a note saying he took towels from the 1926 summer and that the Lord has saved him and he will be ready to meet Him.
Maintenance workers along state highways discovered an old fashioned square piano dumped in a barrel. The unusual disposal prompted bemused notices as crews collected the refuse.
