The Burlington Evening Journal reports Mrs Lizzie Crouth was found not guilty after a 23 hour jury trial for the murder of Mrs Leonard Fretzke seven years earlier. Sensational developments were anticipated in a separate case involving Mary Dickes accused of abortion.
In Vienna Illinois on December 22 the defense shows a miniature railway train before the jury as nine Carterville miners face murder charges in Anna Karr’s death. James Brush links the attackers to Tana and Lauder Station. Witnesses name William Smith and George Durden among those involved while Sam Karr identifies Durden and others in the surrounding crowd.

G A Newman of Alaska Commercial reports Cape Nome finds promising with $1,000,000 extracted along 18 miles of coast in August and September. He says crude tools yielded about $113 daily. with machinery and hydraulic rigs, output could rise dramatically as companies plan to use electric separation tech and broader operations.
