Athens Greece Dec 21 The premier Gotanis said the government would stay in power until the national assembly convenes and elects its president, replying to republican demands that power be turned over after their election success.
D M Conroy longtime Mason City Globe Gazette business manager aged 53 ended his life after six months of ill health and despondency. Found in a gas filled kitchen, his funeral is likely tomorrow. Conroy came from Ottumwa in 1898 and rose to prominence in Iowa journalism.
Moscow dispatch notes both the Russian public and government seek relief from high costs. Russia shifts to a gold ruble basis late in 1925 reducing bargains, with prices four to five times prewar levels for nonfood goods in December. Des Moines Dec 21 A J Banks of Montour filed nomination papers for the Republican gubernatorial nomination at the secretary of state office. Banks has long marketed himself as a dirt farmer candidate and has served as president of the Iowa Taxpayers League for several years.
A. T. Christensen reports his sister Mrs. C. R. Earthart was killed by bandits in her Tula Mexico home. The assailants demanded money and jewelry and shot her when they could not obtain them.
