Ambulance firm plans to stay in business after county bid loss
The Ambulance Service of Washington County will continue operating after losing the county subsidy in a bid contest. Owners Beauchamp and Simmons will relinquish two county ambulances on January 1 to the new contract holders Karl Jones and Richard Burns who bid lower. They plan to keep their base at 1305 E Washington St and maintain the same phone number, using a 1960 model ambulance previously county owned. The private service has logged over 400 calls this year, with county fees around 20 dollars per run plus mileage. The subsidy loss prompted the county to take control, as funeral homes argued continued service was too costly.
