Death sentence for Haarmann the Hanover butcher

Fritz Haarmann known as the wholesale murderer was sentenced to death for killing 26 people in Hanover. Accomplice Karl Gran was also condemned. Haarmann, who lured young men to his lodgings and killed them, showed no remorse and claimed his condition was morbid.

Membership in Red Cross Increases Across Central Division

Chicago December 19 With less than one third of Central Division chapters reporting the American Red Cross says 411 907 members enrolled in the eighth annual roll call. The figure shows an increase of about 65 000 members from last year in Illinois Iowa Michigan Minnesota Nebraska North Dakota and Wyoming among the ten states.

Auditor Separates Trust Funds From General Iowa Funds

Des Moines dec 19 one of the most important changes in the state auditor s office in two years was the separation of trust funds from the general fund. The report to Governor Kendall by former State Auditor Haynes successor James KE Thomas notes trusts were kept in separate accounts since 1923 and warrants issued from these funds. The executive council ordered the treasurer to follow the same procedure and reconcile actions taken. The report urges clarifying vague appropriation language and ending payments under vague authorities to align with the intended expenditures.

Creston approves 275000 bond for new high school

Creston voters pass a 275000 bond by 960 majority for a new high school to serve 800 pupils with a gymnasium, manual training and a 2000 seat assembly room. The measure failed previously but passed this time under a citizens executive committee led by Charles H. Thomas. The site will be the old school built in 1876.
