Mississippi flood tale reports three levee breaks on the Tallatatchie River in northern Mississippi inundating two hamlets Curtis Station and Mimms. Water survived streets as heavy rains continued and a drowning reported near Grenada while Arkansas residents near Camden evacuated as the Ouachita rose.
Mrs Nell Quin land Donnelly a Kansas City businesswoman who founded the Donnelly Garment company was freed unharmed after about 36 hours in captivity. She described a brief kidnapping from Wednesday night and imprisonment in a house near Kansas City Kansas. Family members indicated no ransom was paid.
High school glee clubs will sing carols next Wednesday night at the Y. Miss Helen Coffey directs and will join after a Christmas vacation at Wellman. Clubs from both A and B gins and the boys group participate in the caroling in Washington.
Mrs David Wagler of five miles southeast of Wayland was found dead in bed about 6 o'clock yesterday morning. She had been in poor health for weeks with heart trouble and was over 76. Her husband, also ill with kidney trouble, has been deeply affected by the loss. Funeral plans are not yet set but services will be held at Sugar Creek church where she was a member.
Washington county ministers invite family members to a Monday forenoon meeting on December 28. Four former missionaries now residing in the area or serving county churches will take part in the program.
Gangster Jack Legs Diamond is killed in Albany after an all night party celebrating a recent acquittal. Police question several associates and his wife while state troopers monitor routes out of the city. Diamond had just faced a kidnapping acquittal and had a long criminal record in New York.
The State theater will close Monday to Wednesday for stage improvements. New border wings and jet black velour drape will replace side drapes and permanent screens enabling rapid changes from pictures to vaudeville. A 6600 watt spotlight and scrim curtain will enhance visuals for patrons today and Saturday in Des Moines and forecasts future upgrades.
Five suspects were arrested in Des Moines on December 18 in connection with the holdup of a Perry Iowa Elks lodge stag party. State Agent Myron C Tullar said officers found the men heavily armed and Perry authorities planned to view the prisoners after notification.
After his acquittal in Troy he and his wife with several companions traveled by taxi to the rooming house and went to Diamond's rooms. Neighbors heard loud voices and revelry through the night.
In Manchuria tensions rise toward crisis as Japanese headquarters signal drastic action. Reports allege seizure of Chinchow and Chinese expulsion from Manchuria. Bandits looting burning and kidnapping within 25 miles of Mukden, aided by discharged soldiers. In Fahan yu village women were abducted. In Nanking thousands of rioting students are expelled to restore order ahead of provincial talks and new government formation.
Christmas eve will be observed at the county home with a program by visitors and a tree. Residents will receive presents funded by donations collected at MacDaniel's drug store until six o'clock Christmas eve and distributed by the county home staff.
A sizable crowd attended the Enterprise school play lit tle miss Jack presented Tuesday night despite poor road conditions. Mrs Winnie Belter directed the production with help from the Harmonica band under her guidance. Neva Jean Robertson led the band and received applause for her hosting.
Last night the high school stage presented three one act plays by J. A. Taylor's class with orchestral and sextet accompaniment. Milburn A McKay led the orchestra and Helen Coffey directed the girls sextet. Casts included William Stewart as Santa Claus in The Loveliest Thing, with Milan Thompson, Helen Sartor, Mary Juliet Lemmon and others delivering strong performances. Cabbages featured Elizabeth Dowell Gus Grossmeier Virgil Wittmer and Floyre Hendricks, while Dust of the Road showcased Maurice Mayo Anna Plummer Hubert Turner Junior McConnell and more in a tense nocturnal scene with a ghostly warning.

The Iowa Supreme Court selected Henry F. Wagner of Sigourney as chief justice for the first six months of 1932 He will succeed Justice Frederick F Faville who has served this year in Des Moines on December 18.

House leaders promise ratification before midnight and a record against debt reduction while funding lands banks with 100.6 million to aid farmers. Senate and House also begin hearings on a 500 million distressed business corporation and probe international banking with J P Morgan details.
The Iowa supreme court overruled a petition for rehearing on the Fairfield cattle cases, affirming a venue change in pending conspiracy trials. Judge R W Smith filed the petition, after acquittal of John B Stever and initial venue changes affecting more than 20 defendants. Remaining cases likely set for January district court term, probably at Chariton.
The Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church of Washington will dedicate its East Second street building on Sunday December 27 after extensive remodeling. First services begin Christmas morning at 6 30 and the dedication includes a stone laying at 10 30 a dedicatory service at 10 45 a 2 pm service and a 7 20 pm gathering Rev T C Meibohm presides Rev H Harms Davenport delivers the sermon in the morning Rev P W Happle Wilton speaks in the afternoon and Rev Theodore Gutknecht What Cheer presents an illustrated India lecture in the evening.
