Washington police traced a two‑part theft of nativity figures with a stolen Christ Child and a sheep recovered from a youth in Keota. Investigators believe two more youths were involved in the downtown Christmas display vandalism.
Des Moines with US District Attorney Allen Danielson says a 57 year old man Willard Saunders was found with a loaded pistol while being taken to the city jail after his federal sentencing on heroin charges. Saunders had the weapon during the entire hearing before Federal Judge William Hanson. Saunders part of a three person drug raid case saw two others sentenced to 20 years each. all pleaded innocent but were convicted earlier in the month.
Fair organizers will meet Monday night December 20 at 7 30 in the County Extension Office to discuss livestock and 4 H committees vocal instructors department superintendents and fair board officials. James R Frier notes judges must be selected and the livestock judging schedule reviewed with suggestions for improvements.
