Dismissal of Rhynsburger Upheld by Iowa Council
The Iowa state executive council upheld the dismissal of J. L. Rhynsburger of Pella and Oskaloosa from the highway patrol for a fatal Sept. 5 crash on Highway 63 near Ottumwa. Rhynsburger admitted negligence for not staying with a stalled truck, a penalty the council affirmed after a Wednesday hearing. A second truck driver, Harry Robinson of Greenfield, was killed in the collision. Rhynsburger later joined the Oskaloosa city police force.

Fire Starts in the Toilet of Bathroom
Nashua fire crews responded to an unusual blaze at Will Berrier home after kerosene poured into the toilet to prevent freezing ignited when a cigarette was lit. Mrs Berrier stuffed a rug into the toilet and it caught fire. The room suffered flame and smoke damage before a chemical suppressant stopped the fire and a sample of the fluid was sent for analysis.

Baby suffocated in hospital crib incident
A ten month old boy named Gary Dean Aten died at St Luke's hospital Cedar Rapids after slipping through crib side ribs and becoming suspended by his arms and shoulders with face buried in a mattress. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Charles Aten of Cedar Rapids formerly of Vinton.

RAF Reopens Berlin Raids with 1500 ton Bombardment
The RAF launched new heavy raids on Berlin after a two week lull dropping high explosives and incendiaries as cleanup crews finished restoring services. Reports from Sweden and Switzerland said gas, water and electric services were knocked out again, with the attack centered on the Nazi capital.
