Lucille Thompson 19, daughter of Mr and Mrs James Thompson, died when their car was hit by a Rock Island train at a crossing near town. Mise Thompson, an insurance clerk for Mayor Mel Augustine of Ladora, had just begun walking home and rode with Vergil Davis of Williamsburg, whose car was struck. Davis suffered eye and nose cuts. Coroner J. Van Dyke of Iowa County opened an investigation.
