Admiral Rodgers Close Call at New York Navy Yard

Rear Admiral Rodgers commandant of the New York navy yard his wife Mrs Rodgers their son Frederick and four servants narrowly escaped coal gas suffocation at the commandant house. Mrs Rodgers and Frederick and one servant were treated by a physician and recovered. The admiral was not seriously affected as gas from the basement furnace filled most rooms. He woke choking and carried his wife and son to fresh air. prompt care restored them.

The schooner William C. Tanner brought in T Jenkins Haines his wife and the Edna crew after a hurricane shattered the pleasure yacht Edna off Ocracoke North Carolina. The Edna was struck Dec 9 blew off course Dec 9. rigging torn Dec 11. cabin flooded. rudder lost before rescue.

Robbery at Lee Wolf & Bros Store in Dayton

Three men robbed the Lee Wolf & Bros store in downtown Dayton stealing checks drafts and paper money totaling about 3300 dollars. One man distracted proprietor Lee Wolf while two others grabbed money from a table in the office and later discarded the bank book and drafts in a nearby box. The robbers kept about 300 dollars in paper money.
