William J Smylie Dies Friday Night
William J Smylie 86 of 609 East Second Street died Friday night in Washington County Hospital after six months of ill health. Funeral arrangements are pending with Jones Funeral Home. The Rev Dale Brehmer will conduct the service and burial will be in Ainsworth Cemetery. Smylie, born October 20 1875 in Washington County to John and Margaret Davidson Smylie, married Arminta May Wallace in 1901 she died 1941. He lived in the area six years and had served as street commissioner at Ainsworth and belonged to the Presbyterian Church Modern Woodmen. Survivors include three children Mrs Clifford Campbell Washington state addresses, Mrs Margaret Leatherberry Mesa Aziz and Richard Smylie Pasadena California nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Dwight G. Bode reports Washington County Gray Ladies visiting the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City have delivered holiday treats over the past three Fridays. In prior weeks 40 dozen cookies were donated, and yesterday a bushel of oranges was provided by the Beeliners 4H Club led by Mrs. Dale Lance. Bode thanks local residents for generosity that brightens the veterans holiday.

Driver of School Bus Is Charged
Five of the 20 children killed in a school bus train crash will be buried today as the 23 year old bus driver Duane Marris is arraigned Monday on manslaughter charges. He is free on a $1000 bond. Dist Atty Karl R Said says evidence supports an involuntary manslaughter case against Harms. Crewmembers of the Union Pacific Denver streamliner said the bus did not stop. Harms termed the Friday manslaughter charge open. The trial judge will define voluntary versus involuntary manslaughter in the jury instructions.

Funeral services for the Rev. Orin L. Hutchins aged 81 will be held in OsKaloosa at Garland Funeral Home with Rev Richard Power and later in Hesper with Rev Naomi Lock.
