The 1942 army supply total will be 25 billion dollars up from 5 billion in 1941 and 1 billion in 1940. Munitions excluding aircraft amount to about 11 billion dollars, while production of tanks and anti aircraft guns soars. Patterson said mass production proved its wartime efficiency.

Iowa Safety Commissioner Karl W. Fischer told the joint convention of the Iowa State Sheriffs Association and Iowa county attorneys at Hotel Fort Des Moines that drivers may face higher license fees and wartime license plates could become permanent. He argued the Department of Public Safety should be financed from the safety program.
The Iowa Supreme Court upheld Kathryn Ferguson's 20 year prison term for arson in Traer. Ferguson, 41, was convicted of setting fire to RE V Tuttle's home on September 7, 1941, after an argument with Tuttle, a longtime friend and companion.
Emil H. Seber 44 Newhall Iowa suffered injuries Monday when his light truck and a highway patrol car collided 12 miles west of Cedar Rapids on Highway 30. Seber was pronounced good Tuesday at a Cedar Rapids hospital. the patrol car struck his truck while pursuing a speeder who escaped. Patrol Captain Clarence B. Day reported the chase and left turn involved both vehicles.
Two damage actions totaling 7500 were filed Tuesday against Charles Cerretti and Harold Davis in Ottumwa related to the Oct 20 death of Lester B. Dyer Jr. The suits by his father and Oliver L. Dyer, administrator, allege the child was struck by Cerretti’s truck driven by Davis.
Frederick Driftmier arrived home after three and a half years in Egypt to his parents Mr and Mrs M H Driftmier. A Tarkio College graduate he taught three years at the American College for Boys in Al-Fiat under the United Presbyterian church. He spent the last six months on prison work for the International YMCA in Cairo.
Christmas near, only $21 has been raised for the Good Fellows fund this year. Chairman Boyd White voices concern over slow contributions while the drive invites both cash and food gifts. Notable donors include Freshwaters' Feed Store, George J. Breitenbach, John A. Martin of Crawfordsville, and others listed with small cash gifts or farm produce.
Selective service orders 46 men from Washington to depart next Saturday Dec 19 for active duty in the Army after a week at home. Induction began in Des Moines last weekend. some were rejected or did not return for furlough. Members report 1 AM at city hall Legion rooms before boarding a bus to Camp Dodge with coffee and doughnuts arranged by the Chamber of Commerce.
Earl Lambert pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license and was fined two dollars plus costs. Walter Anderson was fined one dollar plus costs for not having a chain between his car and trailer. Both appeared before Justice of the Peace J. E. Bovee on complaints by State Highway Patrolmen John Rhynsberger and Don Braden.
Fire in two blocks of Boston shopping district injures 34 coast guardsmen and eight firemen, with about 1 million dollars in damage. It follows the Coconut Grove nightclub fire that killed 488, and damages Sallinger's high value stock with estimates over 300 thousand to one million.
Dr. Frank Mahin of Ainsworth was elected president, Dr. J. M. Lloyd of Washington vice president, and Dr. W. S. Kyle of Washington re elected secretary and treasurer of the Washington County Medical Society at a meeting held yesterday evening. Thirteen county physicians attended the dinner at North Side restaurant hosted by Dr. Ruth Church, director of the county health unit. Attendees hailed from Ainsworth Crawfordsville Brighton Kalona and Wellman each with one physician. Riverside currently has no doctor.
A Leon Beatty post displays a four star service flag honoring Legion members serving in World War II. Named are Majors Jay Brown and Walter Conner and Lieutenant Maynard Brown in the Army, Archie Kuwer in the Navy. The post plans Christmas cards for those in service or hospitals and hosts formen leaving for active service. An oyster supper and smoker is set for January 26 with guests Dan O'Brien and A. E. Turner attending from Des Moines and Fair.
Coroner Dr W S Kyle announced an inquest Thursday into the death of Ralph Yoder a 25 year old well driller killed at the Maplecrest turkey packing plant in Wellman. Yoder died from injuries after a freight car struck his truck as he tried to move it from the track.
Donald H. Gingery of Washington is listed among those who joined the navy yesterday at the Des Moines recruiting office. An official order late yesterday says men may still enlist in the navy and other armed forces but must volunteer for induction through their draft boards rather than joining at recruiting offices.
Phyllis Crayne starts work at the clerk of court office replacing Maurine Walker who resigned to join a physician's office. Crayne previously worked at Iowa Southern Utilities and was a stenographer for County Attorney John C. Owen.
A cantata titled Carols of Christmas will be presented during the morning service next Sunday at United Presbyterian Church. A 40 to 59 voice choir directed by Miss Carolyn Hamilton will perform music arranged from Christmas carols by Lorenz. Four trumpeters lead the professional lineup with soloists and duets featuring local singers and musicians.
The Church of Christ invites members to its regular monthly supper at the church this evening. Proceeds support church programs and community outreach.
A joint meeting of the county Legion and Legion Auxiliary will be held with both organizations represented. The gathering will discuss upcoming events, activities, and member participation.
At seven o clock a Christmas themed program will be shared around the tables. Mrs Etteine Spenser is in charge of all arrangements for the evening.
Investigators plan to question at least one of two survivors of a western Airline crash near Cedar Valley Utah. Lt A F Gardner of Davenport Iowa and Robert W Mallett Springfield Arkansas were hospitalized after the five mile east of Fairfield crash that killed four women and 13 men. The plane departed Salt Lake City for Los Angeles at 1 05 a m and crashed after 1 20 a m.
