Clade Wickard announces a new single Iowa corn-hog board replacing the Iowa corn-hog committee and board of review. The move follows the first state corn-hog meeting on the 1936-37 adjustment program and hints at similar boards in other states.
Centerville Clay Products sells bricks with gold content from gravel and sand sourced at the Mibhouser farm near Centerville where gold was recently discovered. The gold bricks have been used in Kirksville Wilard and Greenwood schools and in business buildings in Atkins Afton and New London as well as a Catholic church in Garnavilla. More gold bricks planned for Centerville’s new central ward school.
Sioux City thieves raided the Spice and Span dairy, taking nothing but dumping 80 gallons of milk. They left a taunting note reading Next time leave some money, signed Black Hand.
Delegates from across the state voted for a statewide strike on works progress administration projects to begin January 2. The resolution set the strike and authorized the state labor federation to represent all groups in negotiations with relief and WPA officials before the walkout.
Howard Kinesbure aged 49 of Tipton drove several miles after his car skidded into a truck near Bennett. He exclaimed as he moved his vehicle and was rushed to a local hospital.
Dee Moines W Peyne former editor of The Iowa Forum and Nevada representative, long prominent in Republican party work, died suddenly in Des Moines. He twice sought public office nomination, notably in 1914 when he narrowly missed the Seventh District congressional nomination.
L S Dingman of Woodward sent bones to James R. Harlan Des Moines museum director who identified the ossified remains as a skull fragment of Epephas primigenius a hairy mammal like a giant mammoth from 25 000 to 150 000 years ago bones usually found in Alaska and Siberia Harlan noted the skull fragment likely deposited centuries before humans inhabited Iowa.

George Buckley III, aged 18, is reported very ill with a heart ailment in New York. Fears are expressed at the Buckley home that he may not survive, according to word received today.
A Methodist program includes morning services and an afternoon Sunday school at 2 45 with organ prelude at 3 00 and a 7 30 Messiah ora torio. Young people meet at 6 00 for caroling to benefit sick and shut ins. Miss Jessie Klein is to be notified for requests.
James Gildroy of Iowa City will address drivers in Washington on Thursday night about license exam questions. Sheriff Putnam and local officials announced the meeting at the courthouse at 7 30 PM. Attendees should bring their question lists and study the state code and published pamphlets.
The Journal announces last week's Attendanes contest winners from Ainsworth and Wellman. Heneyvy Te Rockhorst of Ainsworth along with Mre Ben Briey W P Barth Marlon Stransky and G M Wytle of Wellman earned prizes. Fd Miller, Ora Mare won the monthly prize of a year's Journal subscription. The event drew strong interest and may return in the future.
Caleb Milne, grandson of a Philadelphia textile magnate, vanished after leaving his apartment with a Dr Green allegedly to visit his seriously ill grandfather in Germantown. A ransom note assembled from clipped newspaper words was mailed to his brother Frederick Milne, promising return if letters are followed and signed Zwitler.
A Kansas City ex convict Robert Kennedy attempted to escape the Lee county jail by swinging a improvised blackjack as jailer Holt Redmon opened a cell door. Sheriff Harry Maas then seized a machine gun and Kennedy returned to his cell. Police link Kennedy to Illinois Indiana robberies including a $5,000 Danville diamond holdup.
Pupils at West Main Street junior high school form a young traffic detail with white caps and whistles. They direct pedestrians across streets near the buildings and monitor nearby homes to prevent property damage and disturbances. Their duties stay within a city block and they report offenders to the high school office for after school punishment.

Des Moines reports organized labor in Iowa votes to close all WPA projects statewide by January 2 in protest of the wage scale. During the interim two weeks leaders plan to push for prevailing wage payments while Iowa WPA heads doubt the strike will seriously cripple the 26 million dollar program.
A marriage license was issued Saturday to Charles S. Hennon and Cora Thomas, both of Washington. The couple plans to wed soon, according to county records.

Washington county property owners face a higher tax bill next year as a state tax returns after a year without one. The 1936 abstract shows a state levy adding 84 789 82 to the total, with overall county tax rising to 703 028 53 from 597 890 26, driven also by road maintenance increases and small city adjustments.
