Mrs Harry Ray and her 6 month old babe were rescued by firemen from a third floor window ledge as a blaze consumed a house in near zero weather. All other inmates escaped. Mrs Ray stood in night clothes awaiting arrival of help.
Four burglars shot and killed Michael Brew, a night watchman for merchants on Third avenue, New Brighton, as he confronted them while they looted a drug store. The incident occurred about a mile from Beaver Falls on December 14.
