Open Nurses' Home Dedication Set for January 3
Washington county hospital board announces the Nurses' Home at hospital park will be formally opened on Thursday January 3. A two o'clock program includes Invocation by Dr W W Bowers dedicatory address by Eardley Bell and a response by Winfield Smouse who helped fund half the building. Shield's orchestra will perform and the home will be open to county residents until nine. The project cost about 27,500 with half from county funds and 17,500 donated by Smouse. Furnishings worth about 2,500 were donated by forty local individuals, firms, societies and lodges.

Harry Cassel of Washington relates a Friday accident two miles north of Fairfield as he rushed to Chillicothe Mo to supervise his son Theodore Cassel who later died from injuries. Cassel’s car skidded on a slippery road as two wagons passed, the front wheel arcing into his rear bumper, driving the wagon wheel and causing the team to run away. the driver was hurt and died later in Fairfield hospital. The car occupants were uninjured, and Cassel, an 11 year driver, states it was his first accident in which he was involved.
