Iowa Republicans chose Henry Nelson Forest City 60 year old farm management expert as speaker on the third ballot in a tight caucus vote. Robert Naden Webster City won majority floor leader on the fifth ballot, with William Carrington Persia named speaker pro tem and Willam Kendrick Des Moines chief clerk. Nelson led with Farm Bureau backing but narrowly missed on earlier ballots. Lisle Des Moines was his closest rival. Nelson pledged to pursue good legislation for the people of Iowa and thanked the delegates as the party prepared for the full House vote.

Two Anamosa youths Richard Seiberling 19 and Darrell Kepler 16 were arrested in Iowa City in a stolen car and admitted breaking into the Washington Skateway on the rink's west edge. Authorities say only about two or three dollars in pennies were taken.

Hillsboro Man Charged With OMVI After North Richland Crash
Leo Willard Sanderson of Hillsboro is hospitalized in Sigourney with a punctured lung and body lacerations after a Saturday evening crash on Highway 77 four miles north of Richland. Patrolman D C Woods charged Sanderson with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Funeral services were set for Edward Osweiler 79 Sigourney, the second victim of a two car crash near Fairfield. Osweiler died in Jefferson County Hospital two days after Charles Clark the first victim. Interment at Parish Cemetery St Peter and Paul Clear Creek followed services at St Marys Sigourney. Mrs Frances Osweiler and sister in law remain hospitalized. Survivors include five sons five daughters and twenty grandchildren.

A Richland two story house owned by Julie Elmore was badly damaged by a Saturday morning fire started by a defective chimney. Mrs Darlene Gardner, her two children and her mother Edith Hall were left homeless temporarily and moved to a Bill Lear residence after the blaze. The fire caused major roof and room damage and extensive water damage downstairs. furnishings were not insured.
