Charles D. Reed, Iowa’s government crop forecaster, places the 1929 crop value at 575 million dollars, excluding livestock, with corn at 302 million dollars from a 437.76 million bushel crop. He notes a severe prior winter and favorable spring conditions for hay pastures and clover, aiding gains.

Mrs H M Beicher received a letter stating Mrs Col Viram Scofield died in Boston on December 8. A longtime Washington resident, she was active in church and social affairs. Her husband was a Civil War colonel and a prominent lawyer. She left two daughters, Cora of Boston and Clara Patterson of Seattle, and was nearly ninety.
C. O. Dayton reports the state highway commission will shift the route of primary road 81 from Wellman to a southward path nine miles toward Cedar Township line to meet road No 2 west of West Chester. The existing route remains maintained until the new road is surfaced, with grading and bridges to follow, possibly next year after work on primary road 161 in the county’s east section is finished.
Harold J. Montgomery and his wife arrived home from Chicago after attending the international live stock show and the national farm bureau meeting. They were joined by Mrs. Walter Brown, while Mr. Brown stayed to continue his duties as an Iowa delegate at the farm bureau event.
Funeral services for Charles Mickey who died in Omaha will be held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock in Ainsworth.

Mountain View Arkansas fearing a feud sparked attack leads to 20 extra deputy sheriffs sworn in to guard the Connie Franklin murder case. Defendants are guarded as Tillie Ruminer 17 hides with witness Reuben Hargell while Tillie’s father Charles Ruminer faces threats and possible flogging. Tension runs high as feud memories and threats of kidnap circulate around the courthouse and town.
Miss Rebecca Josephine Thomson died this morning at 8 45 at her home a mile and three quarters east of Washington following a year long illness due to complications. She lived in the Keota community most of her life, recently moving to a farm east of town. Funeral services will be held Friday at Keota Presbyterian Church at two o'clock led by Dr. F. W. Eastwood of Washington and Rev. W. C. Harper of Keota. burial will follow in Keota cemetery. The casket will be open and friends may call at the L A Jones funeral home tomorrow and until ten o'clock Friday. Miss Thomson was a member of the community.
Governor Arthur J. Weaver of Nebraska told delegates at the American Farm Bureau Federation convention that an adequate inland waterways system, including Missouri and Mississippi river development, would ease farmer economic problems and preserve living standards by lowering costs in marketing and transport of bulk farm commodities.

Miss Thomson, a Keota resident born October 1, 1873 in Seventy six Township, died after illness. She attended the Keota Presbyterian church and was active in the Women's Relief Corps. Surviving are brothers David and Will Thomson and a niece and nephew, Mr and Mrs John Wimmer of Keota.
The Y M C A hosts a season opener tonight matching Sigourney against the visiting I H U quintet from Sigourney. The Washington team seeks an early win as the strong opponent brings a measured test to start the year.
The Women's Relief Corps reports flag disrespect by Washington youths with torn and disfigured banners. It warns that state and federal laws prescribe severe punishment for flag desecration and calls on parents to instruct children to treat the American flag with reverence.
