Eugene Barnest ten year old son of Mr and Mrs Norris Barnest of Marshalltown was killed when a truck driven by C M Huff of State Center ran him down as he played with other children on West Coty Street. Coroner Wells said the boy fell or was pushed under the rear wheels. No inquest will be held. Clarinda note recalls a Methodist class misjudging the entry of the United States into war on December 8 1941 amid the Hawaii strike and congressional declaration.

Charles W. Mackey aged 48 a Fort Dodge automobile man died from a bullet wound while cleaning a pistol. He had just been released from a hospital after recovering from injuries in a automobile crash. He is survived by his wife a son Jack a brother Mort Mackey of Okobosi and his mother Mrs Pryor Mackey of Glidden. His father died last week.
