Waverly Students Donate Blood for War Effort
Ninety eight Wartburg college students in Waverly donated a half pint of blood for the war blood bank sponsored by the local United Service Women unit. More than one third of the student body participated. Margaret Goodenow and Hsther I Carlson guided the effort with St. Joseph Mercy hospital staff nurses assisting. additional donors signed up for a second blood bank to be held early in 1943.

Auditors Injured in Highway 61 Crash Near Keokuk
State highway commission auditors R. B. Laird of Sidney and Wayne Vinent of Ames were injured in an audio accident on Highway 61 about four miles north of Keokuk Saturday night. They were taken to Graham hospital with head injuries and a back strain respectively, while attorney H. B. Clark of Ames escaped injury.

Skull Injury Fatal After Car Crash in Ottumwa
Coroner Gordon Traul said Carl Grant aged 28 died from a skull fracture and internal injuries after being struck by Wilbur Paxton 19 of Fairfield. Paxton told officers Grant darted from between parked cars and he could not avoid the collision. Grant was dragged about 80 feet before bystanders released him.

Tax sale auctions 62 properties for back taxes
Sixty two pieces of property were sold to private bidders at the annual tax sale in the county treasurer’s office for non payment of taxes. Twelve additional parcels were sold to the county under a provision after three years of advertising. Principal bidders were Mrs Dora Jones and Murph Adams. The sale was adjourned to February 1 for remaining properties. The delinquent list was the smallest in years.
