Oldsters restore toys for needy in Perry Iowa
In Perry Iowa a group of elderly residents at Rowley Memorial Masonic Home and the Lutheran Home for the Aged repair and rebuild broken toys. They have created a year round Santa's workshop to provide 275 underprivileged children in Dallas and Boone counties with toys for Christmas. Volunteers retouch bicycles, wagons, dolls and toy vehicles while women sew clothes for dolls. The project began as a pastime and grew into a full program supported by the two homes with a Dec 17 party invitation. Dale Scott, aging 50, superintendent, notes the stockpile includes bicycles, tricycles, wagons, pedal cars and doll buggies ready for distribution.
