The county treasurer warns at current pace auto registration will take five months. By January first owners must file licenses, with penalties for delays. About 145 licenses issued in four days this month as 4,200 plates await arrival, and transfers require extensive data.
Seven county morgue deaths due to wood alcohol prompt Coroner Hoff man to urge Mayor Thompson to curb sales. He seeks an immediate council ordinance allowing sales only by health commissioner order, to stop drinking supply while keeping legitimate industrial uses. The latest victim is Michael Weiser of Campbell Avenue, aged 70.
A man circulated wood alcohol spiked drinks at a party. Several revelers died in the morgue from poisoning, including Ignatz Swenty, Williams, Fred Boerst, John Rubel, John Ronabold, and John Fribal. Druggist John Weepers was arrested for selling the liquor, and coroner's chemist Dr. William D McNally was asked to analyze a sample. Feliz Miselium, found nearby, was dying after the party.
Indianola Iowa reports Simpson College replaces fuel loss from last year’s fire by chopping historic maples on campus. Wood heating will power grade schools starting Monday and many students spend vacations cutting wood to keep heat.
Lee Whistler shot a duck near Savanna that bore a label with the number 3125 from the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Ducks are tagged and released to track migration, a practice supported by the Department of Agriculture and the American Bird Association. Whistler notified the New York society.
Local schools hosted short health talks as part of a tuberculosis awareness week. Speakers included Dr H F Masson at Centennial, Dr C W Stewart at Wallace, Miss Elizabeth Finley at Lincoln, Dr C W McLaughlin at Heights, and Dr C A Boice at the junior high, with English teachers handling the high school presentation. Debates between Washington and Muscatine high schools were postponed due to coal shortages, and the high school gym remains in use with basketball practice starting next Monday despite fuel concerns. A sale notice for a sandwich hay press is also noted.
Mayor J B Bovee outlines plans to cut eight acres of oak timber seven miles south of town for affordable firewood. Timber owner George Morrison offers favorable terms, with deliveries starting as wood is cut. Wood costs mainly pay cutting and hauling. stove-length loads cost about eight dollars per three-fourths cord.
D J Rogs the school board president submitted his resignation after nearly seven years in office though the board did not accept it. Ross says he cannot reconsider and aims to have a successor named soon. A vacancy will be filled until next March with a new president chosen from remaining members. The board also kept the high school auditorium closed due to coal shortages.
Two cars derailed when a Rock Island freight train broke apart between Cotter and Columbus Junction. The line blocked for hours. no injuries reported to crew. Remedy crews cleared tracks by noon. the incident prompted fuel shortage concerns affecting Coe College state university and state teachers college.

Francis Trotter nine year old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Trotter died in Tipton Iowa after four years with Bright's disease. He endured much suffering with patience. Survived by parents a brother Gene four. Body to be brought to Ainsworth for interment with services on Saturday pending hour. Community extends sympathy.
Denison Iowa December 4 Patrick Hassett of Denison has purchased the Albert Schwieson farm of 940 acres plus 240 more making his total nine sections of Iowa soil. At 200 an acre the 5 760 acres value would be about 1 728 000 dollars, a fact noted as Hassett becomes a major landholder.

Coaches were C N Kennedy and Don Merrill. team members included Edward Mencough Dewight Smith Merwin Smith and Floyd McComas.
Dan Bevans, tied to the Jones Auto Company for about a year and a half, has left the firm to pursue other work. The move ends his Washington residence, as Omer Jones continues to lead the business and eyes future growth in the automobile trade.
Funeral services for J. H. Mee Cleary, a former Crawfordsville resident, who died Sunday afternoon at his home in Mesita, Colorado, will be conducted by the Reverend W. K. Covert at two o'clock.
