Mother Planned Murder Plot and Arson Case in Waterloo
Waterloo police bound Mrs. Dorothy Ehlert, 50, Evansdale, over to District Court on charges she hired her son to kill her husband and set fire to the farm home. Her son Donald Shindley, 21, testified she originated the plot and paid him $800, with $4,500 insurance proceeds collected after the fire. He admitted firing 16 shots at the car on a country road to simulate an attempt. Mrs. Ehlert held on $15,000 bond. Shindley bound over on arson charge with $5,000 bond. The husband Henry Ehlert, 65, sat in court weeping but pledged support.
