Young Doctor Arrested for False Pretenses in County
W. H. Lesh, a young doctor from Oskaloosa, was charged in Squire McCall’s court with obtaining money under false pretenses after securing a $75 promissory note from a farmer near West Chester. He claimed to cure diseases by mail and claimed a Chicago office with a branch in Oskaloosa. County Attorney Bailey settled the case by the doctor surrendering the note and promising not to practice in Washington county.

Washington seeks bids for Main Street paving 1901
Sealed proposals due December 16, 1901 by the City Clerk for Main Street paving in Washington Iowa. bids must include asphalt type, curb and gutter, grading, and a seven year guarantee with bonds. The project covers 9300 square yards of paving, 2500 feet of curb and gutter, and 200 cubic yards of excess grade with payments by city and abutting owners.
