City police investigated two crashes near the noon hour in Washington. At 12:05 p.m. Robert E Knight was struck by Linda Jaspering at South Fourth and East Washington and suffered pavement burns. He was taken to Washington County Hospital. In a second crash Jo Ellen Mayer rear ended Helen Louise Salts as she turned left onto East Van Buren from South Nineth, leaving Salts with a cut lip treated by a local doctor.

Leon Lloyd Mapel 26 of Ainsworth died Tuesday when his car jumped a curb and hit dirt at a Monticello construction site for the new fire station. Funeral services are Friday at 2 p.m. at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, with burial at Oakwood cemetery.
