Kalona Man Albert Stumpf Dies After Illness
Albert Stumpf 71 of Kalona died Thursday night at Mercy Hospital Iowa City after a long illness. Funeral services are set for Monday at 10 am at Holy Trinity Church Richmond with Rev. William Snell. Rosaries Sunday at Peterseim Funeral Home Kalona at 7:30 and 8 pm. He was a lifelong resident of Kalona and Richmond, born October 3 1890 near Kalona to George and Catherine Welte Stumpf. He married Alice Kos in 1910 and farmed in Richmond. Survivors include his widow 12 daughters and 2 sons plus five brothers and one sister and 46 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and was a member of Richmond Holy Trinity Church.

Rural Mail Carrier Melvin Dicks Retires After 40 Years
Melvin Dicks, a rural mail carrier at the Columbus Junction post office, retired Thursday after a long career starting Feb 1 1935. He began in Tilton Iowa Feb 1 1923 and carried routes including 27 miles in mud and snow with a Model T Ford.
