NFO Signs First Master Contract with Processor
CORNING Iowa UPI The National Farmers Organization announces the signing of a first master contract with a processor just hours before a nationwide moratorium to push for higher farm prices. NFO president Oren Lee Staley says the identity of the processor will stay private while the program unfolds. The moratorium begins at midnight as 16 states halt shipments of cattle hogs sheep corn and soybeans to markets to pressure processors to meet NFC price terms. Minute Men will monitor commodity flows from country buying stations to major terminals. The effort aims to secure minimum prices and will require contracts with enough processors to cover 60 percent of national production. Staley emphasizes no force will be used and notes Farm Bureau objections and potential enforcement responses.
