United Press reports say Bedouins attacked Safed, killing nine Jews as British troops and planes move to secure the town. Officials in London said Arabs crossed from Syria into Palestine and pressed southward, with raids ongoing and grave prospects noted.
The Hague report says the political and financial conference of governments to liquidate the world war closed today amid cheers from a large crowd. Acknowledgments highlighted the participants and the hope for future cooperation. Also noted are individuals, including Miss Merna Jacobson, who plans to teach in Washington, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Larson visiting from Illinois.

Semifinals this morning and finals this afternoon will conclude the YMCA tennis tournament begun Thursday. In yesterday’s first round Lewis Warren defaulted to Mark West. Kolisick defeated by West. Second round saw Fletcher defeat Turner and Owen beat Lisle Anwyl. Mangold beat Jay with Little defeating Welt. Doris Fields beat Nelle Wiley in girls, Mae Mangold beat Mary Briley, Mangold then beat Doris Fields. Forecast: Sept 2 to 7 for upper Mississippi valleys and northern central plains, one or two unsettled periods with local showers, otherwise mostly fair and cooler toward the end.
Chinese and Soviet governments plan a joint declaration of principles to settle the Chinese Eastern Railway dispute. China will restore the railway to a status quo ante and reappoint a Russian manager, signaling imminent negotiations for a final settlement.
Graf Zeppelin, freed from earlier difficulties after a 20,000 mile world voyage, rested today and prepared to begin the homeward journey to Friedrichshafen Germany. The airship is scheduled to start at midnight as Larest city dispatch notes.

Miss Amy Christian returned from Decorah where she spent the summer with her parents. Ila Conklin returned to Keota after two weeks in Washington visiting Mrs Mawell and Mrs Ernest Garret.
Mrs J A Frey and family visited E J Frey in Haskins. H J Schrag spent time with Carl Johnson and wife. Arthur Mitchells returned home after Sunday school. Dan Noble and Glen Kloptenstein tended the state fair. Stella and Margaret Rinner Ed Rinner and Mrs J A Frey attended a Wayland concert. D B E Richard and son Roger and Mrs J A Frey spent Monday in Washington. Toy Frey visited C A Rich’s home near Winfield.
At Cleveland today Aug 31 the Edison tribute to air travel progress was held without the inventor present. Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone joined others in accepting honors for the enduring impact of Edison on aviation and nationwide flight development as the air races drew national attention.
Word reached here of the death of James M. Walker which occurred last night in Chicago. He had been a carpenter in Washington for years and recently lived in Chicago. The body will be brought to his son Bernard Walker in Ainsworth for funeral arrangements. He is survived by three sons Hubert and Jack in Washington and Bernard in Ainsworth.
Des Moines Aug 31 Officials on the fair board announced the 75th Iowa state fair set a new all time attendance record with more than 432000 people visiting the exposition surpassing the previous high of 430000 set in 1927 The record was reported after the fair closed yesterday and highlighted by officials as a standout achievement for the event and state celebration.
Thomas Jack Reid of Downey California was killed when his plane crashed into a tree in Lorain Woods, west of Cleveland, shortly after attempting a world endurance record. The accident occurred around 1:08 a.m. local time during the flight.
William Voss fatally wounded his wife and injured three others with a public safety item in Silliat Iowa. He died today at Mercy hospital Council Bluffs after turning the device on himself following the shooting.
Charles City August 31. G Gray, in his second term as mayor and former Floyd County sheriff for eight years, awaits any challenger to attend a public meeting on morality publicity stories. He believes whispers stem from his tough stance on prohibition violators brought before him in court.
Des Moines and surrounding sheriffs hunt bands of three to four bank robbers who held up Estherville and Brooklyn banks yesterday, fleeing with about 5000 dollars. State agents pursue leads as lawmen from many counties wire crime descriptions and search towns for clues.

In Marion county a justice of the peace and a constable watched their two sons, Jonasott 18 and Lyle Pyle, go to reform school after confessing to stealing twelve chickens from a local farmer. Judge E W Dingwell sentenced them to five years each at the state reformatory in Mosaic. They began serving today, joined by John Gordon 22 of Knoxville also given five years for the same offense.
Leo the MGM lion arrived around two pm and entertained hundreds on East Main Street in front of the Fox theatre. A decorated vehicle and a blue uniformed trainer accompanied the spectacle drawing a large crowd and even halted traffic during the hour long appearance.
The Dutch Creek fair announced unofficial awards across poultry geese ducks and rabbits. Grand champion rooster and hen went to John Baumgardner with others like Mrs Walter Sheets and Mrs John Redlinger earning top placings in various divisions. Local residents including Maynard Lukavsky and Catherine Wheelan were mentioned in brief visits and travels.
The U S Steamboat Inspection service opened hearings to fix responsibility for the San Juan disaster in which 74 perished. Passengers and crew are under review as the federal board investigates claims that crew members of the San Juan were Cowards. Theodore Grandstedt, father of Greta Grandstedt, accuses the crew while his wife perished in the wreck. Captain John K Rutger leads the inquiry and will likely be called to testify.
Registration for the junior college started this morning with a room full of young people waiting to enroll for the year beginning next Monday. Dean Harland Mead reported an early showings and noted one uncounted girl enrolled without solicitation. Enrollment continues Monday for interested students.
