Ainsworth Social Notes and School Preparations

Youngster Upsets Horseshoe Champion at State Fair

Des Moines report says 13 year old Emmett Mossman brother of Putt Mossman defeated the titleholder 50 6 to 4 2 in the second round of the Iowa Horseshoe Championship at the state fair. Mossman stands four feet tall and weighs under 100 pounds.

Columbus Junction Fair Opens and Closes Thursday Night

The Columbus Junction fair opens this week and runs through Thursday with a large slate of exhibits. Highlights include farm bureau displays, historical relief, child health clinic, clubs, stock judging, auto and farm machinery shows, plus a doll show with 40 children in business costumes and a Roosevelt pageant. Music by Mt. Pleasant Municipal band, plus a busy race program featuring trotting and pacing events with substantial added money.

Riverside Labor Day Plans Given

Plans completed for the Labor Day celebration in Riverside on Monday September 6 1926 sponsored by St Marys parish. Morning program features Riverside Band an address by William Griffin various musical numbers and dialogues. Afternoon includes readings solos parades and a constitutional convention dialogue plus a cornet solo and piano duets. Nearby notes mention residents and travel to the state fair and church conference attendance.

Wreck of Gravel Truck Near Washington Injures Driver

John Kramer of Oskaloosa suffered bruises and lacerations when his gravel truck turned over twice on primary road No 2, three miles west of Washington. He was taken to Washington county hospital and was later said not to have serious injuries. Police expect charges of reckless driving. The truck, bearing liquor, remained intact, and Kramer may face arrest once he is moved.

Washington boys win at state fair

Washington county shows 18 baby beef and pig club members and a strong judging team at the 1926 Iowa state fair. Pigs and calves win multiple prizes totaling hundreds of dollars as 1400 to 1500 Iowa farm youths participate in exhibits and demonstrations.

Stile Registers At Two High Schools

Registrations for the new year continue at the high school and junior high though the fixed period closed last week. At the high school enrollment neared 400 with final numbers likely higher when school opens Monday. Miss Ethel McCreedy reports 200 pupils enrolled at the junior high last week and expects the total to exceed last year’s 225.
