Perth Amboy witnesses street battles as mobs storm the Odd Fellows Hall where the Ku Klux Klan sought refuge after an attack that injured over 100 people. Police and state troopers struggled to protect Klansmen amid beatings and chaos as the clash spilled into streets and woods.
Clyde Minnis and Virginia Belle Lorenzo of Lorellville Iowa were named Iowa 1928 baby champions in the state fair sweepstakes for 12 to 36 months. Clyde scored 96.7 and Virginia 96.58 of 160 points. Carroll Hogan placed fourth for 12 to 24 months with 94.8 points.
Mr and Mrs T L Rehmel arrived home last night after several weeks in the far west visiting and taking in the sights. They report a delightful trip and are glad to be back home.

Cold storage butter cheese eggs higher than month before and above five year average. Flour mill output up slightly in July with increased sales.
An early morning napthaline still explosion at the Barrant Company dye and chemical works in Philadelphia left two workers dead and ten injured. The blast damaged nearby facilities as investigators began assessing the cause.
A. Shields, a former Washington boy, is named chief engineer of the Denver and Rio Grande Railway system with headquarters in Denver. The appointment takes effect tomorrow and Shields will oversee 2600 miles of railway, after years with the Rock Island road and service as Division Engineer of the Missouri division at Trenton.

The United States and Mexico agreed to restore full diplomatic relations and recognize the Obregon government. Formal announcement by the State Department cites resumed embassies in Mexico City and Washington. Negotiations led by Chas. B. Warren and John Barton Payne concluded in Mexico City.
The 69th Iowa state fair ended today under light rain but held auto races. Attendance today exceeded 30,000, with total attendance expected to surpass last year's 361,000. The fair closed at 4 PM.
