Hanoi Radio reports Stokely Carmichael pledged American Negroes support for North Vietnam in the Vietnam war. He met with Ton Quang Phiet of North Vietnam’s Asian African Solidarity Committee in Hanoi and spoke of North Vietnam’s resolute backing of black struggles for freedom and equality.

Farm Bureau seeks charter members for county anniversary

Minnesota to Kirksville cycling trip by three teens

Three 18 year old Minnesota boys Syd Williamson Rich Abel and Paul Switola bicycled from Minneapolis to Kirksville Missouri visiting relatives along the way. They rode through Iowa endured rain and hills and noted many flats and heavy packs. They plan to enter the University of Minnesota in the fall with majors in sciences liberal arts and mathematics.

Ford urges clear victory plan in Vietnam war effort

House Republican Leader Gerald R. Ford condemned the Johnson administration's Vietnam policy at the American Legion convention. He called for a decisive plan, warned of a long attrition battle, and pressed whether McNamara or the military chiefs should guide the air war, suggesting the war could last 10 to 20 years if not clarified. Rotary exchange student from Argentina boards in Essex home

Felix Omar Bruna of Mar Del Plata Argentina stays with Mr and Mrs Tom Essex in Washington while attending Washington High School under the Rotary International Student Exchange Program. He is one of two exchange students at the school this year and aims to study nuclear physics with chess as a hobby. His father runs a restaurant in Mar Del Plata and Felix hopes the program will build cross cultural understanding for his future.

Jewell farm home destroyed by early blast

A Jewell resident, John Carroll, escaped serious injury when an explosion virtually destroyed his two story farm home five miles northwest of Jewell. Carroll was alone asleep and blown from the structure and treated for a shoulder injury at Story City hospital.
