Democrats Clash Over Vietnam War Plank at Convention
Delegates clash over platform language on Vietnam. McCarthy and McGovern supporters seek to strike the Johnson war tribute and push for an unconditional halt to bombing and talks for withdrawal. Humphrey supporters defend the current plank, while Sorensen argues for ending the war. The vote leaves Humphrey with a noisy but hollow victory.
