New York report details more than 120 commercial groups urging the Interstate Commerce Commission to investigate express rates and practices. It cites large dividends on modest capital, pro rata increases for small parcels, and uneven terminal charges as evidence of overcharges. John W. Griggs and Benjamin N. Fairchild will argue the petition at the ICC fall session.

Connersville Indiana August 29 John Jameson a farmer east of the city was kicked in the stomach by a cow during milking and lay unconscious for twenty minutes He then rose and hobbled toward the house but a kick from a vicious horse fractured his leg and knocked him out again He was not discovered for thirty minutes.
Washington reports Michigan added 89,151 residents in the last decade, a 16.1 percent rise to 2,810,172. Detroit leads with 465,766 people, while Grand Rapids, Saginaw, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and others show strong gains. Nearly half the increase is in Wayne County due to Detroit.
Over 20,000 fans watched the Logan Squares defeat the Roger Park team 3 to 0 under electric lights. The nine innings showed excellent play as twenty 137,000 candle power lights lit the diamond like day. Officials plan to consider regular night games.
In Kalamazoo Michigan on August 29 Lloyd Prayer ten was knocked from his wheelchair by a bulldog and severely injured The dog sprang from nowhere and leaped onto him tearing his clothing and biting him He was found unconscious and rushed for medical aid
Len Mulford driving a Lozier clinched the Elgin national trophy finishing the 305 miles 204 feet course in 4 hours 52 minutes 29 seconds. Ivingstone in National car No 7 also competed.
The Illinois trophy event saw the winner finish first in the big race while Living Stone completed the full course at an average of 60.2 miles per hour. Arthur W. Greiner finished third in the big race driving the second national car as 10,000 spectators cheered the winner on the final lap.
John S. Parry of San Francisco is elected vice president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles after defeating John Cline of Cincinnati by more than 400 votes in St. Louis. The event occurred on August 29.

Benedict Macy, the second oldest man in Hamilton county, died at his home near Noblesville aged 382. He came to the area fifty years ago from Henry county and was a farmer by occupation. He was married twice and leaves six children.
Anthony Cott, 65, a bodymaker for O. J. Beaudette & Co, was hit by Grand Trunk Express No. 8 on Elizabeth street. His left arm was severed and his head badly cut. He was taken to Oakland hospital in serious condition. a Detroit contractor son is among his children.
Frank Lee aged 50 died after being found lying near railroad tracks in the Michigan Central freight yards in Saginaw Michigan on August 29. The fatal incident occurred while he was in the yard area.
Frank Lee, 50, of Flirt, was found in a freight yard with both legs severed. Believed to have slept under a passing freight car, the accident occurred during switching. He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital where he died.
In Henryville Indiana the homecomers picnic drew about 1500 attendees. Speakers included Former Governor W T Durbin Prof Kirk Patrick Capt Fortune and Prof Edward Holton county superintendent of schools.
The Chicago market notes strong demand with hog receipts around 23000 and cattle and sheep rising. Hogs show bulk prices near 8 75 to 9 00 for common grades and lighter weights, with heavy shipping and mixed packers also listed. Cattle and sheep are steady to higher, Texas steers and Western cattle priced up to 700, while native sheep and lambs fetch 275 to 690. Grain market data from Beach-Wickham accompanies the market roundup.

In Brooks Georgia a championship ball game between negro clubs ended in a riot in the ninth inning. Three Brooks players Kid Iverson Jim Barrett and Harvey Mayes were killed and several others injured after pistols knives and bats were used amid rival factions over a disputed umpire decision.
Friends of John R. Walsh serving a five year sentence in Leavenworth Kansas for misapplying funds at Chicago National Bank will seek a presidential pardon. They base the plea on his youth and ill health.
