Raids Hit North Viet Nam in Record 156 Bombing Missions
US planes carried out the heaviest raids of the war on North Viet Nam, logging 156 bombing missions on depots and supply lines. Marine and Air Force strikes near Da Nang, Dong Hoi, Thanh Hoa, and Haiphong left casualties and damaged oil depots, barges, warehouses, and bridges with no reported pilot losses. Marine units reported 319 enemy killed near Da Nang and a five day Allegheny operation north of Saigon yielded 107 enemy deaths, while Navy and Air Force jets supported operations and Marine redresses.

At the 1966 Iowa State Fair near final day, judging of dairy cattle continued as big car auto racers filled the grandstand. Horseshoe and baton twirling contests engaged crowds while Lawrence Welk closed his five day stand. Eddie Brothers of Storm Lake swept both grand and reserve grand champion in the Yorkshire swine, with numerous breeds and champions named across farms in Iowa and nearby states.
