A naked male escapee from the Des Moines veterans hospital walked along Highway No. 60 a mile southeast of town. He flagged cars until Constables George Hunt and Bert Conrey retrieved him and returned him to the hospital.

They were en route to Washington when Rabenold lost control while attempting to pass another vehicle around 10 45 this morning.
An 18 year old Iowa State College chemical engineering student William Joseph White and his 24 year old companion Alice Coffin were killed instantly when struck by a Northwestern train in Ames around midnight. White was from Des Moines and Coffin from Oskaloosa.
Dale Whealen of Galva Iowa on thirty days furlough from the navy was killed in an early morning wreck near Sioux City. The death marks the 310th automobile fatality in Iowa this year.
