Stans Denies Blocking GAO Audit in Nixon Campaign Case

FDA moves to federalize blood collection centers nationwide

The FDA proposes federal registration and inspection of all blood collection facilities not presently licensed, aiming to curb contaminated blood risks. About 530 federally licensed centers handle 85 percent of U S blood. 15 percent in intrastate banks would face new standards, with concerns voiced by AABB leaders.

Washington Demons face shaving dare and spins of town

In Cedar Rapids the Washington High School Demons see six or seven players shaved after a friendly dare at Myers Barber Shop. Firemen plan a Sunday water fight in the square at 1 30 p m. In Fort Dodge nineteen people including five juveniles faced court after a bar room brawl. A Cedar Rapids man, Aaron Doolin, was bound over to the Linn County Grand Jury on an open murder charge in the death of Deputy Marshal Dick McKinney. The federal case will go before a grand jury next month.

Two Injured in Stout Family Accidents

George Stout of Ainsworth stepped in a hole on Thursday and fractured or potentially broken left foot, delaying X rays. His daughter, Mrs Harold Frakes of Wellman, suffered serious bruises after a Tuesday auto collision near Kalona at the Wellman road and Highway No 1. She teaches elementary music in West Chester Kalona and Wellman schools.

Iowa committee backs gun curbs and porn statute rewritten

A Des Moines based UPI report says Iowa's Criminal Code Study Committee backed strict handgun limits and updated pornography laws. It would limit concealed carry permits to—among others—law officers and those with a clear need. The panel also set 17 as the age for new porn rules, narrowing access for younger teens.

Cab driver attacks protesters near GOP convention

In Urlando Florida a cab driver carrying three passengers to the Republican National Convention drove into a crowd and then waved a steel chain at protesters before police intervened. Passengers described the incident on Wednesday night as the driver honked and then sped through the crowd striking people and running over an object.

Pig derby winners crowned at Washington County Fair

Steve Libe of the Marion Men 4-H Club led the top 4-H swine carcass honors with a pig that beat 65 rivals. Daryl Owens of Wright and Bar Wright of Brighton won the Pig Derby firsts in the open class, as 17 hogs began the contest. Final results rely on an index of weight, ham and loin percentages and loin eye area.
