John C. Patler, 29, an ex Nazi once allied with Rockwell, was arrested near the crime scene for the killing of American Nazi leader George Lincoln Rockwell. Patler, previously fourth in the American Nazi party, was jailed on murder charges with bond set at 50,000 dollars pending arraignment.

CHOTEAU Mont. A rampaging bear mauled two teen campers sixty miles southeast of Glacier National Park. Rangers closed the Gibson Reservoir campground while they searched for the animal, believed to be a black bear. Jerry Brown and Steve Heyer were not seriously injured. Brown was hospitalized for scalp wounds and arm injuries, while Heyer was treated for a shoulder bite and released.

Two Army sergeants Sgt. I C Harris of Neptune New Jersey and S Sgt Leonard J Safford of Chillum Maryland were arrested for conspiring to pass national defense information to Russians. Austrian born actor Paul Muni, Oscar winner for The Story of Louis Pasteur, died at his Santa Barbara home. He was 71, after heart trouble following months of illness and prior pneumonia treatment. Services set for Hollywood Park Memorial Cemetery chapel. Survived by wife Bella and two brothers. Born Weisenfreund in Lemburg, Austria, 1895. Recruited by Howard Hughes for Scarface in 1932, then I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang the same year. The two films propelled him to stardom and his 50 year career.
