House Approves Civil Rights Voting Bill

Car crashes through Fairfield house on US 34
A car plowed through a Fairfield home after leaving US 34 crossing a fence and alfalfa field. The unoccupied vehicle, with a license from Ottumwa, left the house and was found about 100 feet away. Mr and Mrs Clifford Thomas and their 5 year old son Arthur were asleep in another room and unharmed.

Escaped Prisoner Caught After Car Collision on Bridge
Carl Kane a 33 year old Missouri prison escapee was killed when his car struck a guard rail on a Mississippi River bridge while fleeing police. Capt John Marlin and Patrolman Ray Lovell pursued Kane at up to 94 mph across the bridge toward Illinois. Kane had been on the run since escaping Jefferson City prison April 17 and had been living in Macomb Illinois.
