President Wilson submits to the six railroad shop crafts a plan to raise shopmen wages by four cents an hour on a ten for eight basis retroactive to May 1. He warns a larger rise would lift living costs and hinder wartime to peacetime adjustment as a wider cost of living crisis looms.
A French officer report cited by Reuters claims the Russian emperor and family were killed July 17 1918 in Yekaterinburg by Bolshiviks after being moved to a underground room. The sentry found 11 bodies and only the emperor's son survived briefly before a final shot. A Detroit strike vote reports 2 000 against a 175 000 ballots count for maintenance workers.
FINDS RULE LUST NOT KILLED J. W. Folk, Counsel for Egyptian Nationalists, Tells Lawmakers Britain s Position in Egypt is Like That of a Highwayman. Washington Aug. 26. While Germany has been vanquished for the present nothing but force is likely to restrain her from seeking world domination at the earliest opportunity says the senate judiciary sub committee appointed to report on the validity of the proposed treaty by which the United States would go to the aid of France in the event of attack on her by Germany. The subcommittee says ratification of the special defensive treaty is within the constitutional powers of the treaty making bodies of the American government and that it is in the interest of the United States that France should be aided to recuperate and recover her vigor. It will be seen that the covenant aims only at protection against Germany and is of temporary character to be merged by the League of Nations when established. The armistice covers the period until peace, the treaty covers from adoption until the League can take its place. Such a treaty is warranted by international law and usage and is within the treaty making power of the United States. Call Britain Highwayman.
J W Folk counsel for Egyptian nationalists told the senate foreign relations committee that the peace treaty would validate the robbery of Egyptian independence. He said Britain occupied Egypt 30 years ago and seized the government in 1914, seeking to reduce Egypt to a subject nation while suppressing unrest from the Egyptian people.
