The Iowa Southern Utilities company has filed a petition with the Washington County Iowa State Commerce Commission seeking a franchise to erect and maintain poles wires towers and conduits for lighting power and heating services for citizens of Washington County.
The Iowa State Commerce Commission in Des Moines scheduled a hearing on September 13, 1944, at 10:00 AM for Company of Delaware in Center ville Iowa to obtain a right to construct and operate an electric transmission line over public lands highways streams and private lands in Washington and surrounding areas. Objections must be filed in writing in triplicate at least five days before the hearing.
Weekly livestock sales occur at multiple venues including Whittaker sale barn and Midway Sales Company Columbus Junction while Kalona Ollie and Keota hold regular auctions. Closing out sales list household goods and a 218 acre farm near Brighton with start times and seller names.

A group returned Wednesday evening from Winnipeg Canada where they spent a week. They stayed with Mr and Mrs C W Long of Brighton and visited Mrs Longs brother in Winnipeg. Earline Stearns left after visiting Des Moines where Martha Davis is staying as a student nurse. Maude Stuart visited Wayland for several days at her son Ralph Stuarts home. Wayne Burling family returned to Cumberland Ohio after a 10 day visit with Mrs Burlingames parents Mr and Mrs John Wagner.
